Govt bill 'locks in' drinking water for patrons in bars |

New legislation will be introduced into the Victorian Parliament to require bars, pubs and clubs to serve free drinking water. Under the proposal, licensed venues will have to ensure patrons understand free water is available. The Gaming Minister Tony Robinson says the move is part of the push to address the problem of alcohol-fuelled violence in the city. "Free drinking water is an important measure in addressing some of the anti-social activities we've seen arising as a result of excessive consumption of alcohol," he said. "Overwhelmingly, our licensees in Victoria have been providing free drinking water but we want to lock this in.... as a condition of licences." The law will come into effect later this year. |
