A candid, low-angle photograph showing the side of a parked car at night under soft streetlight outside a residential-style building. The passenger door is slightly open, and a blurred figure is stepping out while another person’s hand rests on the roof for support. The focus is on the glow from the building’s doorway and the sense of urgency in the posture — faces are out of frame. Lighting is warm from the doorway, contrasted by cool street shadows.

Fast, trauma-informed assessment

Inside a softly lit clinic room, a nurse in neutral clothing lays out a fresh set of bedding and a water jug on a bedside table. The scene is warmly lit by a bedside lamp, and the bed is neatly made with crisp linen. The nurse’s face is not visible, only their hands and torso. The composition centres on the preparation and safety of the space, giving a sense of immediate care and comfort.

Urgent admission for people in crisis

When things fall apart, you shouldn't have to wait. If you're saying, "I need help now," we'll move fast. Emergency rehab is for anyone who can’t wait for support. We've taken people in the same day they called. We know how hard that first call can be. Many of us have made that call too.

Our team includes people who’ve sat in that same chair, trying to believe this might work. That’s why we do everything we can to open our doors quickly and make you feel safe when you walk through them.

  • Round-the-clock contact for intake, support, and next steps.
  • We take every request seriously. If we can help, we will.
  • Only requirements are GP health summary or referral letter
We’ll give you all the support you need, immediately

What’s included in emergency rehab

Emergency care isn’t just about stopping use. It’s about stabilising, feeling safe again, and being treated with genuine care. We create a calm space to rest, breathe, and start healing.

Ce à quoi vous pouvez vous attendre

  • One-on-one intake with someone trained to hear what’s really going on.
  • Optional medical detox and withdrawal management on-site.
  • A calm space where you’re treated with dignity, not suspicion.
  • Immediate harm reduction support if you’re withdrawing or in distress.
  • Connection with peers and staff who get it because they’ve lived it.
  • Planning for what comes next. Even if you’re not ready to think that far ahead.
Addiction is a severe problem for more people than you think

How emergency addiction affects Australians

According to the latest findings from the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, more than 10 million people in Australia aged 14 and over have used illicit drugs at some point in their life. That number includes the non-medical use of pharmaceuticals. And for many, that use becomes a crisis. At The Hader Clinic, we see the painful human reality behind these numbers. People who are scared, overwhelmed, and unsure where to turn for help.

What counts as an emergency?

An emergency isn’t just about overdose or violence. If you’re scared you can’t stop, can’t cope, or might use again soon, that’s enough. We take it seriously.

Warning signs of crisis

There’s no perfect checklist, but some moments tend to stand out.

  • You’ve started using again after a period of sobriety.
  • You feel unsafe with yourself or your thoughts.
  • You’re using more often, and struggling to stop.

What happens when you call us?

You’ll speak to someone real, not a recording. We’ll ask a few basic questions to understand where you’re at, then explain your options clearly.

  • You won’t be judged for how you sound or what you’ve used.
  • If we have a bed, you can come in immediately.
  • If we’re full, we’ll help connect you to other care.

How fast can I get help?

We aim to admit emergency clients within 24 hours. We’ll always prioritise safety and help you stabilise while waiting.

  • Rapid intake call and transport support when needed.
  • Detox and medical triage if you’re physically unwell.
  • Connection to a support person while you’re in care.

Is one week of rehab enough?

Emergency stays are usually short, but they’re not the end. They’re a starting point. We’ll help you stabilise, then connect you with next steps.

  • Continued treatment through residential or outpatient rehab.
  • Planning for relapse prevention and aftercare support.
  • Personalised recovery planning tailored to your goals.

Questions and answers about emergency rehab for substance abuse

How quickly can I be admitted into emergency rehab after I call?

In many cases, you can be admitted the same day you reach out. Our emergency rehab service is designed to move quickly because we know that when someone is ready, the window to act can be short. Once you call, we’ll talk through what’s happening, assess your needs, and organise your admission as fast as possible. We have support staff available 24/7 to respond to urgent enquiries.

If we have space and you’re ready, we’ll get you here without delay. If not, we’ll help you find the next best step to stay safe and supported in the meantime.

Can I come to rehab today if I’ve been drinking or using drugs?

Yes. You don’t have to be clean or sober before you arrive. In fact, many people come to us while actively using or immediately after a binge. We’re equipped to support people in crisis, including those under the influence or in withdrawal.

If you need a medical detox, we’ll arrange that as part of your admission. Our clinical and counselling teams will support you through the first hours and days with care, calm, and experience. All we ask is that you reach out. You don’t need to “get ready” first.

What if I’ve already tried rehab and relapsed?

Relapse doesn’t mean you’ve failed. It means something wasn’t working, and it’s worth trying again with the right support. Many of our clients have been through previous rehab attempts and come to us feeling discouraged, ashamed, or afraid they won’t be taken seriously. We understand.

We’ll work with you to understand what’s different this time, and what needs to change.

  • We offer individualised recovery planning based on your history and goals.
  • Our team includes people with lived experience who know relapse isn’t the end.
  • If you’ve relapsed after rehab, this article on relapse rates and prevention strategies can help you reflect on next steps.

Is emergency rehab safe for people with mental health issues or trauma?

Yes. Our emergency rehab program is designed to support people living with complex mental health conditions and trauma histories. Many of our clients arrive with overlapping issues like anxiety, depression, PTSD, or undiagnosed trauma. We’re equipped to meet you there, without judgment.

Nous proposons :

  • Trauma-informed care from staff who understand how mental health and substance use connect.
  • Optional psychiatric support and tailored treatment planning.
  • A calming environment where your safety, dignity, and autonomy are priorities.

We also provide integrated support for a wide range of mental health conditions:

  • If you often feel overwhelmed by frustration or outbursts, our anger management program can help you understand and regulate your responses.
  • If anxiety has become constant or paralysing, our anxiety rehab service offers structured, therapeutic relief.
  • If you're experiencing low mood, hopelessness, or emotional exhaustion, our depression rehab program can support your recovery.
  • If you live with complex, long-term patterns that impact relationships or daily life, we offer personality disorder support alongside addiction treatment.
  • If you’re carrying the weight of trauma, flashbacks, or hypervigilance, our PTSD rehab program can help you stabilise and begin healing.

You don’t need a formal diagnosis to be taken seriously here. If you’re struggling, we’ll meet you with care.

Do I need a referral or a doctor’s letter to be admitted?

No. You don’t need a referral, a doctor’s note, or any formal paperwork to access emergency rehab. If you’re in crisis or someone you care about needs help urgently, you can contact us directly. We’ll listen, ask a few grounding questions to understand what’s happening, and talk you through what comes next. Our job is to remove barriers — not create them.

What can I do if my loved one is refusing help but clearly in crisis?

It’s devastating to watch someone you love lose control and push away help. If they’re not ready to engage, it doesn’t mean you’re powerless. You can reach out for support yourself, to understand your options, to plan the next conversation, and to protect your own well-being while they struggle. You might find this guide on how to convince someone to go to rehab a helpful starting point. Even if they’re not ready, you can be.

Do you offer help with interventions or transport to the clinic?

Yes, we do. If someone is resistant or unable to get here on their own, we can help with both structured interventions and transport arrangements. Our interventions program supports families in holding difficult conversations with care, and our team can coordinate safe, supported admission if your loved one is ready to enter rehab.
