What holistic rehab means to us

Treating the whole person, not just the addiction

We admit ‘holistic’ can sound like a meaningless buzzword, but we assure you it isn’t. Not to us. It’s our commitment to seeing and supporting the whole human experience. Addiction affects more than the body; it changes how we think, feel, relate, and live. That’s why our holistic treatment programs include care across five core domains: physical, psychological, emotional, social, and spiritual. These are delivered through a blend of medical detox, evidence-based therapies, creative and reflective practices, and long-term community support. The result? A deeper recovery that helps people rebuild identity, purpose, and connection.

  • Medical detox and medication-assisted treatment (MAT)
  • Dual diagnosis care and trauma-informed therapy
  • Equine, art, music, journaling, yoga, and movement therapy
  • Family education, alumni programs, and transitional housing
  • Mindfulness, breathwork, and identity exploration
A layered model of care

The pillars of holistic addiction treatment

Our model addresses every dimension of recovery with a comprehensive approach and varied treatment methods, not just physical withdrawal. We integrate clinical, creative, and relational care into every step of the journey.

  • CBT, DBT, ACT and journaling
  • Dual diagnosis and relapse planning

  • Sound healing and recovery journaling
04

Spiritual

Spiritual

Finding meaning, identity, and calm

Everyone’s definition of spirituality is different. We offer space — not doctrine — for reflection, identity work, and reconnecting with purpose. Many clients describe this as the heart of their recovery.

  • Breathwork, meditation, and mindfulness
  • Identity and values exploration
  • Space for stillness, growth, and meaning
Why this model works

What makes our holistic rehab centre different?

Most services offer some form of group therapy or well-being add-ons. What makes The Hader Clinic different is how deeply and consistently we embed holistic care. This is not a side stream or optional therapy. It's a foundation. Every client moves through a complete recovery arc, supported by trained professionals and evidence-backed interventions. We are one of the only services in Australia that combine inpatient private hospital care with residential rehab.

Embedded across every program

Holistic care isn't an optional extra — it's core to how we treat addiction.

Accredited and clinically structured

NSQHS and ISO9001:2015 certified, with AHPRA-registered staff across all treatment levels.

Whole pathway in one place

Detox, rehab, aftercare and step-down support under one holistic framework.

1. Clinical intake and assessment

Every new client completes a comprehensive physical, mental, and social health assessment. This helps our team build an individualised treatment plan that aligns with personal history, readiness, and future goals.

2. Medically supervised detox

For clients beginning with withdrawal, we offer 24/7 medical support at our licensed private hospital in Geelong. Medication-assisted treatment is available, with individual detox protocols for every person.

3. Residential holistic rehabilitation

Structured daily programming at our Essendon facility includes therapy, creative expression, movement, family involvement, and rest. Clients live in a therapeutic community model with recovery-based routines and peer connection.

Aftercare and transition support

After residential care, clients continue into Hader at Home or step-down housing. These programs include counselling, goal-setting, journaling, and connection to ongoing support, all designed to protect long-term outcomes.

Where our programs take place

We operate our own sites for privacy and therapeutic quality

Our holistic approach is woven into every part of treatment, no matter where you begin. In Geelong, clients have access to medical detox in a private hospital setting with therapeutic support from day one. In Essendon, our residential program expands on that foundation with structured therapy, community connection, and whole-person care. Each setting plays a different role, but both are grounded in the same commitment to treating the mind, body, and spirit together.

Your questions, answered

Frequently asked questions about holistic drug and alcohol rehab

How is holistic rehab different from traditional rehab?

Unlike traditional addiction treatment, which often focuses narrowly on detox and behavioural change, holistic rehab integrates holistic therapies that treat the whole person — body, mind, emotions, relationships, and purpose. This comprehensive approach to recovery addresses the root causes of addiction, not just the symptoms, helping people build a more sustainable and fulfilling life. At The Hader Clinic, our rehab treatment includes therapy, movement, mindfulness, family support, and creative expression, all working together to support long-term transformation.

Do all addiction treatment programs at The Hader Clinic use a holistic approach?

Yes — all of our addiction treatment programs follow a holistic approach to addiction recovery. Whether you're beginning with detox and rehab in one of our licensed facilities or continuing into transitional care, each stage incorporates holistic practices that support physical, emotional, and psychological healing. Our programs are built to be inclusive, trauma-informed, and person-centred, ensuring that every client receives the flexibility and depth of care they need.

Is this approach evidence-based or alternative?

It’s both — and that’s what makes it effective. Our holistic addiction treatment programs are grounded in evidence-based practice and supported by complementary and alternative therapies that promote healing across multiple dimensions:

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and dual diagnosis support
  • Medication-assisted detox and psychiatric review
  • Equine therapy, mindfulness, journaling, and art-based expression

What role does trauma-informed care play in this model?

Trauma-informed care is a crucial component of holistic recovery. We understand that many people struggling with addiction have lived through experiences that affect how they feel, relate, and heal. That’s why our treatment centre uses trauma-sensitive environments, language, and therapeutic boundaries to ensure emotional safety and respect. Our team is trained in holistic techniques that prioritise trust, empowerment, and choice — essential elements of a meaningful approach to recovery.

What if I'm not comfortable with the spiritual aspect?

That’s completely okay. Our holistic therapy focuses on your individual needs, and that includes your comfort with spirituality. For some clients, spirituality means exploring identity or values; for others, it’s about mindfulness, self-awareness, or simply having space to reflect. We offer holistic methods that invite meaning-making on your terms, without ever requiring belief or participation in anything that doesn’t feel right to you.

Are holistic therapies optional, or part of the core program?

They’re part of the core program. Holistic treatment emphasises consistency, and our daily structure reflects that. While clients are never forced into any single modality, therapies like movement, meditation, art, and group sessions are integrated throughout the week as part of our holistic and conventional care model. These types of holistic support help maintain balance, reduce stress, and improve emotional regulation. These are all key in overcoming addiction and mental health challenges.

How does holistic care support long-term recovery?

Holistic treatment approaches give clients a wider range of tools to manage life after rehab. Instead of only treating substance use disorder itself, our approach also strengthens emotional regulation, relationship repair, self-esteem, and purpose, all of which are often left unaddressed in traditional treatment methods. By including both holistic and conventional support systems to improve overall well-being, clients feel more prepared to navigate life outside treatment and stay connected to their recovery.

What's an example of a holistic day at The Hader Clinic?

A day in one of our holistic treatment centres blends structure with flexibility. Mornings might include guided meditation or movement therapy, followed by group counselling and shared meals. Midday could include journaling, creative therapies, or individual sessions. The afternoon may bring equine therapy or relapse prevention workshops, while evenings often focus on peer support and quiet time. These components of holistic care are designed to foster emotional safety, connection, and daily rhythm.
