How financial assistance makes rehab possible

We’ll work closely with you to explore financial assistance pathways that can make rehab more accessible, even if you do not have private health insurance. Depending on your circumstances, you may be able to access your superannuation through compassionate release, set up a payment plan, or apply for veterans' or community-based funding. We are here to guide you through the process and help you find a solution that fits.

These options open the door to both of our treatment settings — hospital-based detox in Geelong and residential rehab in Essendon — and can also help you access our full 90-day program if you're ready to make a long-term change. Whatever your circumstances, we’re here to help you take the next step.

Exploring the benefits of financial assistance

How financial assistance helps you access rehab

If cost is stopping you from accessing care, financial assistance options may help cover detox, rehab, or aftercare. This can include payment plans, super access, government support or DVA/NDIS funding. Our team works with you to identify the best option for your situation so treatment can start promptly.

Benefits of financial assistance

Many people assume that private rehab is out of reach, but financial assistance can help in several ways:

  • Reduced upfront costs: Some funding options allow you to start treatment without paying the full amount upfront.
  • Payment plans: Structured repayment plans can help spread the cost of rehab over time.
  • Government-supported funding: Eligible individuals may qualify for state-funded support programs.
  • Superannuation access: Some individuals can use their super to cover treatment expenses.
  • Veterans' assistance: DVA funding may be available for eligible veterans seeking treatment.
  • NDIS support: Those with a pre-existing disability linked to addiction may qualify for NDIS funding.

Who is eligible for financial assistance?

Not everyone qualifies for every funding option, but many people are eligible for some form of financial assistance. Our team can help assess your situation and explore which financial assistance options best suit your needs. Eligibility may depend on:

  • Proof of financial hardship (low income or Centrelink support)
  • Medical documentation (for superannuation or NDIS)
  • Veteran or disability status (for DVA/NDIS)
  • Willingness to complete a financial assessment with the Hader team

Frequently asked questions

What organisations can help me afford rehab if I’m in financial hardship?

If you’re struggling financially, there are external support programs that may be able to help. These include:

  • Good Shepherd: No Interest Loan Scheme (NILS)
  • StepUp Loans: Low-cost personal loans
  • The Salvation Army, Mission Australia, Vinnies, and Red Cross Australia: Crisis and financial relief
  • Centrelink: Emergency payments and support services
  • State Government concessions and rebates: For eligible low-income earners

Our team can help connect you to the right support options based on your individual needs.

What if I can’t pay the full amount upfront?

We understand that the cost of treatment can feel overwhelming. To get started, a $1,990 deposit is required. After that, we’ll work with you to create a manageable payment plan or help you access superannuation or financial assistance so you don’t have to delay your recovery.

Can I get a discount or price match on my rehab costs?

Yes — we may be able to offer a discounted rate for longer stays, prepaid packages, or in cases of financial hardship. We’ll also consider matching competitor pricing on a case-by-case basis. If affordability is a concern, please reach out — we’ll do our best to support you.

Do all funding options apply at both Hader Clinic locations?

Not all funding types are available at both locations:

  • Geelong (private hospital) accepts private health insurance, superannuation, and self-funding.
  • Essendon (rehab) accepts superannuation and self-funding only — private health insurance is not accepted at this facility.

Our admissions team can help you choose the best location based on your funding eligibility.

Isn't cocaine expensive? How do people afford to get addicted to it?

Compared to other substances, cocaine is an expensive habit. The short, intense high only lasts for between 20 and 30 minutes, and requires constant attention to maintain. This can lead to fast use, which can increase tolerance in a short space of time.

At The Hader Clinic, we understand that one of the main social effects of cocaine addiction is financial detriment. When you're an addict, financial stability takes second place to getting high. Saving money does not light up the pleasure centre of the brain like cocaine does.

Our cocaine rehab programs help address social problems like financial dependence, in tandem with the physical, psychological, emotional, and spiritual effects of addiction. Using our specialised and proven holistic model of treatment, we help patients come to realise that there are things of value outside of cocaine.

What types of financial assistance are available for rehab?

There are several ways to access drug or alcohol rehab financial support and make treatment more affordable:

  • Payment plans: Allows you to spread the cost over time rather than paying upfront.
  • Government funding: Some state and federal programs provide subsidies or financial support.
  • Superannuation access: Eligible individuals can withdraw their super to cover rehab costs.
  • DVA support: Veterans may be eligible for fully funded addiction treatment.
  • NDIS funding: People with a disability linked to addiction may qualify for support.
  • Low-income assistance: Some concession programs reduce costs for eligible individuals.

Can I get financial assistance if I don’t have private health insurance?

Yes. Many funding options do not require private health insurance:

  • Payment plans: Structured repayment options help manage costs without insurance.
  • Government-funded programs: Some public rehab services may provide free or subsidised treatment.
  • Superannuation access: If eligible, you may be able to withdraw super to cover treatment.

How do I apply for financial assistance for rehab?

The first step is to speak with our team. We’ll guide you through the eligibility criteria for various funding options, help you prepare documentation, and support you through the application process.

What if I need immediate treatment but can’t afford to pay upfront?

If you need urgent access to drug rehab, we offer payment plans so you can start treatment without a large upfront payment. Emergency admissions require a $1,990 deposit upfront, with the remainder payable later. We also help fast-track applications for superannuation access and other funding options to ensure you can begin your recovery as soon as possible.

How do I know if I qualify for government-funded rehab?

Eligibility depends on factors such as income level, medical necessity, and specific circumstances like veteran status or disability. If you think you may qualify for state-funded or concession-based rehab, our team can help you explore your options and apply for assistance.
