Frequently asked questions about our live-in program

What’s the difference between this program and detox?

Detox is the first step in treatment, focused on safely withdrawing from substances under medical supervision. It typically lasts 7-14 days and includes:

  • 24/7 nursing care
  • Medication-assisted withdrawal
  • Physical stabilisation

After detox, many clients still feel emotionally raw and vulnerable. They may not be ready to return home or move into a more flexible program. That’s where the residential program comes in.

This next stage provides:

  • Structured, full-time accommodation
  • Daily therapeutic support
  • Routine and supervision

It bridges the gap between detox and long-term recovery, helping clients build emotional resilience and establish new habits — a transition explored more deeply in our guide on detox versus rehab.

What happens if I relapse during the program?

Relapse is a recognised risk in recovery, and we approach it with compassion and structure, not punishment.

If a client uses substances during their stay:

  • Our clinical team will assess their safety immediately
  • A return to detox may be required before re-entry
  • Each decision is guided by clinical well-being and group safety

We treat relapse as a learning opportunity. Clients are supported to reflect on what happened, rebuild their plan, and re-engage with recovery from a place of care and accountability.

Is this program suitable for dual diagnosis?

Yes. Many clients in this program live with both addiction and mental health conditions, such as:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • PTSD
  • Bipolar disorder

Our team is experienced in dual diagnosis treatment. The program includes:

  • Individual counselling
  • Psychological support
  • Referrals for psychiatric care where appropriate

Our addiction rehab process focuses on emotional safety, regulation, and addressing the underlying drivers of substance use.

Can I have visitors or leave for appointments?

This is a closed live-in program. Clients do not come and go freely during their stay. This helps maintain consistency, safety, and focus in the recovery environment.

  • Most external appointments should be postponed or coordinated with our team
  • Visitation is generally not permitted
  • Family sessions may be available virtually or on-site when clinically approved

Any exceptions must be approved on a case-by-case basis for clinical or safety reasons.

What should I pack for the program?

Bring enough clothing for 1-2 weeks, including:

  • Comfortable clothes and sleepwear
  • Activewear
  • Weather-appropriate layers

Also bring:

  • Toiletries (non-aerosol)
  • Prescribed medications in original packaging
  • Any relevant medical documents

Do not bring:

  • Alcohol or drugs
  • Sharp objects
  • Valuables
  • Laptops (phones may be allowed pending approval)

A full packing list is provided during intake.

What happens after I finish the residential program?

Toward the end of your stay, our team helps you build a personalised transition plan.

Most clients move into:

  • Transitional housing
  • Hader at Home
  • Intensive outpatient counselling

We also support referrals to community services and peer networks. The goal is to help you maintain the stability you’ve built while stepping into more independent recovery.
